Now Showing: 'Speed Racer,' 'What Happens in Vegas,' 'The Fall,' and 'The Babysitters'

Two big movies hit theaters this weekend while other smaller ones will struggle to get noticed. Read on to find out what's now showing at a theater near you!

[cut=Are you ready? Get set... Go!]

Go! That's the word you'll be hearing a lot of this weekend as 'Speed Racer' accelerates and crashes into theaters this weekend. Racing into 3,606 speedways, 'Speed Racer' will have to contend with the amazing strength of 'Iron Man' that opened a week prior and 'Speed' might not be able to pick up enough speed to break the top spot. The movie stars Emile Hirsch and Christina Ricci and is based on the Japanese anime cartoon. With spectacular visuals and the Wachowski brothers attached, 'Speed' does stand a chance to earn some serious box office moolah, but with a two hour and fifteen minute run time and a lack luster story line, it will not have the easiest time coming in # 1 come Monday.

The other major picture opening today is "What Happens in Vegas" starring Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz. This formula comedy follows all the rules and puts two actors who are comfortable with physical comedy opposite each other with winning results. Fun, easy and quick, 'Vegas' is the ideal alternative to men of iron and race cars. "What Happens in Vegas" rolls into 3,215 casinos nationwide.

But the movie everyone should see, but can't since it is only opening on 9 screens, is 'The Fall' starring Lee Pace. With a brilliant story and amazing visuals, this movie is profoundly moving and wonderfully imagined by its brilliant director, Tarsem ("The Cell"). Watch my interview with Lee Pace and Tarsem.

And lastly, checking into 19 movie houses is 'The Babysitters' starring Katherine Waterston, John Leguizamo and Cynthia Nixon. The movie tells the story of a teenager who turns her babysitting service into a call-girl service for married guys after fooling around with one of her customers.

Major 'G.I. Joe' Character Photos Revealed

Paramount just released a series of character photos from the upcoming motion picture "G.I. Joe" and we have them!

[cut= Is it just me, or do these character look awesome?]

Details on this movie are still slim. I was able to dig up a synopsis at IMDB that states:

"The story is set at Brussels-based GIJOE, an acronym for the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, and revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil org headed by a Scottish arms dealer."

The movie stars Channing Tatum (as Duke), Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson (as Hector 'Shipwreck' Delgado, Joseph Gordon- Levitt, Rachel Nichols (as Scarlett), Sienna Miller (as The Baroness), Dennis Quaid (as General Hawk), Ray Park (as Snake Eyes), Byung-hun Lee (as Breaker) and Marlon Wayans (as Ripcord).

Directed by Stephen Sommers (Van Helsing), "G.I. Joe" is due in theaters August 9, 2009 and will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.[/cut]

Only two weeks remain before "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" arrives in theaters. In anticipation of the big day, I have added some just released photos and a lots of new clips!

On May 22, Indiana Jones is back in a new globe-trotting adventure, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford as Indy, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" features an outstanding cast, including Oscar® winner Cate Blanchett, Karen Allen, Ray Winstone, John Hurt, Oscar® winner Jim Broadbent and Shia LaBeouf. Frank Marshall is the film’s producer. George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy are the executive producers. The screenplay is by David Koepp from a story by George Lucas and Jeff Nathanson.

True to Spielberg's marketing style, very little has been seen or released by Paramount for this movie. Personally I like not knowing what I am about to see. Having 150 clips from a movie and over 500 photos really ruins the experience of the discovery or that 'Whao' factor I experience when I see something on the big screen for the first time.

Paramount has released a nice series of photos from the production, but not too many. You can take a look at them here on our Indy 4 page. In addition I have added 17 new video clips which include some 'Indy' webisodes shot on the set, TV spots and various trailers. Just enough to whet our appetitie, but not so much it ruins the surprise.

'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Trailer Premiere Thursday

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars," the new animated feature from Lucasfilm will premiere exclusively across multiple Turner Networks on Thursday, May 8th.

Grab your light sabers, pour some blue milk and get ready for the newest intergalactice adventure based on the worlds created by George Lucas. According to the press release that came out this morning, we will all get an unprecedented look at the upcoming CG-animated movie "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" as it debuts across five Turner networks simultaneously.

At 7:58 p.m. in all time zones, Cartoon Network, TNT, TBS, CNN, and Boomerang will debut an action-packed, two-minute preview of the animated adventure from creator George Lucas and Lucasfilm Animation. This marks the first time a theatrical trailer has received a simultaneous, cross-network airing on Turner Networks. The trailer debuts in theaters on Friday, May 9, along with the first poster for the movie. But you don't have to wait or go out to see the poster, because it's already here! (Image below)

The movie opens nationwide on August 15, 2008. After the trailer debuts on TV, it will then be available exclusively at the official Star Wars web site: www.StarWars.com.

'The Spirit' To Open Christmas Day

Lionsgate has announced they are moving up the release of Frank Miller's "The Spirit" by almost a full month to Christmas Day, 2008.

Variety broke the news this morning with an article that states they decided to move up the release date after the project was presented to fans at the New York Comic-Con two weeks ago. "The Spirit was originally slated to open on January 16, 2009. Way to go NYC! I guess you must have really shown Lionsgate the love.

"The Spirit" is an action-adventure romance adapted from the Will Eisner comic strip. It stars Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes. The story follows a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit to fight crime from the shadows in Central City. Frank Miller is directing from the adapted script he wrote.

This is really great news for one and all. It must mean that the movie is coming along great and Lionsgate is confident with the movie thus far. I imagine they also want to earn some of that holiday coin. Moving up the release date will also make "The Spirit" eligible for this year's Oscar consideration.

'Terminator 4' Shapes Up As Cameras Roll

Cameras are already rolling on the McG directed follow-up to the Terminator franchise but they aren't done hiring the cast! Rapper Common has just signed on to co-star.

I should note that the full title of the movie is "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins." If I don't I am sure my friends at Warner Bros., who is distributing the picture domestically, will not be very happy with me. Is it just me or are movie titles just getting unbelievably long and complicated? I mean what happened to the good old days of just one or two word titles?

Common will be joining Christian Bale ("The Dark Knight"), Moon Bloodgood, Anton Yelchin and Sam Worthington on the set of this battle against the machines. Common will play a freedom fighter and a member of Connor's inner circle.

Out Today on DVD: 'I'm Not There' and 'P.S. I Love You'

It's a rather slow week in the world of DVD releases but two titles do stand out as worthwhile endeavors.

[cut=If you haven't seen Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan yet you are seriously missing out!]

The Bob Dylan inspired pic stars Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Marcus Carl Franklin, Ben Whishaw, and Richard Gere. And they're all Bob Dylan, or are they? The movie is "a profoundly personal and passionate film," said A.O. Scott of The New York Times. Each actor takes on a different look or period in Dylan's life to each embody a part of the Dylan legend. Directed by Academy Award-nominated writer/director Todd Haynes ("Far From Heaven"), "I'm Not There" is a must-see for anyone who loves Dylan, Blanchett, Ledger, Bale or Haynes. With that many reasons, do you need another? Didn't think so.

Oh, and while you are at it, make sure you enter our "I'm Not There" sweepstakes where you can enter and win one of two Fender Guitars or your very own copy of the DVD.

The other pic I'd like to highlight today is a touching love story starring Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler "P.S. I Love You" based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Cecelia Ahern. The story is about the love-at-first sight encounter on a country road in Ireland over ten years ago, for Holly, a lost young tourist (Swank), and Gerry, a charming local lad (Butler).

Holly's formidable mother, (Kathy Bates), disapproved of the couple, concerned that her spirited daughter was too young for marriage. In the years since, the once fearless Holly has become unsure of her own identity. When Gerry dies with a brain tumor and leaves Holly a widow just shy of her thirtieth birthday, her family and best friends (Lisa Kudrow, Gina Gershon) are concerned that she will never emerge from her takeout container-strewn Manhattan apartment. After weeks holed up watching old movies, a birthday cake and tape recording message from Gerry mysteriously arrives, marking the beginning of a series of letters instructing her to perform unusual requests. With the help of her girlfriends, Holly begins a year of wild adventures and a life journey that Gerry has planned for her, helping her to discover who she is without him and reminding her - p.s. I Love You. The movie is touching and deeply moving. It will make you laugh and it will make you cry. But most importantly it will make you think about life. Buy or rent it today!

WALL-E Vignette: The Headphones

Watching WALL-E interact with just about anything is always a riot. This latest vignette shows WALL-E encounter a pair of head phones.

So far we have seen WALL-E struggle with a magnet, a vacuum and a hula hoop. So it would only be natural that Pixar's loveable creation would next be up to tangle with a pair of headphones. This latest video comes courtesy of Movieweb.com.

Every time I see and hear that little robot I can't help but smile and look at my calendar to see just how many days away we are from its opening. Hurry up and make it June already!

So what's the movie about you ask? Well, the movie takes place in the year 2700. The inventive storytellers and technical geniuses at Pixar Animation Studios will transport us to a galaxy not so very far away for a new computer-animated cosmic comedy about a determined robot named WALL*E. After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, WALL*E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL*E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet’s future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL*E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets into motion one of the most exciting and imaginative comedy adventures ever brought to the big screen.

Lee Pace Talks to Buzznet + 4 New Clips From 'The Fall'

I got a chance to sit down with both Lee Pace and Tarsem at the recent press day for "The Fall" here in LA and learned about just how difficult the shoot for "The Fall" was and how Tarsem cast Lee for the lead role when he had only seen him in one other movie! Seriously, the answer will surprise you!

Coming soon to a theater near you is the long-awaited big-screen version of "Sex and the City" bringing back our four favorite gals in all of their stylish splendor!

That's right; "Sex and the City" is coming to the big screen in a feature film adaptation of the hit HBO television series. The film will follow the continuing adventures of the series four main characters - Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda - as they live their lives in Manhattan four years after the series ended. Stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon are all on board to reprise their roles, while the film will be written and directed by Michael Patrick King, who executive produced the original television series.

When it comes to screen size, bigger is definitely better! "Sex and the City" arrives only in theaters on May 30th, 2008 and it promises to answer all of the lingering questions – will Carrie and Big finally tie the knot? Can Samantha really be satisfied with just one man? Will Charlotte ever get pregnant? Can Miranda and Steve actually live happily ever after?

Also co-starring are Candice Bergen as preeminent Vogue Magazine editor Enid Frick and Academy Award®-winning actress Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) as Carrie Bradshaw’s young and inexperienced but still label-savvy assistant, Louise, a character new to New York and introduced in the film.
